[origin: DE19930281A1] The invention relates to a method for pneumatically conveying bulk material from a low level to a higher level. According to said method, the bulk material is first conveyed essentially horizontally, then raised by pneumatic means and conveyed onwards pneumatically. During the first, horizontal stage, the bulk material is conveyed in form of separate plugs (9) with gas cushions (10) between them. The bulk material is raised in the form of an essentially continuous stream of material (12). A device for modifying the state of the material (11) is used to prevent said material from passing through unstable conveying states during the transition from being conveyed in plugs to being conveyed continuously in a flowing or suspended manner.
