[origin: EP1148170A2] At least one dimension of the item to be folded is registered before, during and/or after the folding. The installation has a contact surface (11), associated with at least one sensor (28,29) for a rear edge of the item to be folded. The sensor(s) corresponds to a time measuring device. The installation features at least one transverse folding station (21,25). Sensors are provided in the area of these stations and register the rear end of each item layer. The sensors are associated with a front end of the garment and correspond to the time measuring devices.
