[origin: WO0046449A1] The invention relates to a device for inserting dowels (2) in the vicinity of perpendicularly running expanding joints of freshly laid concrete road surfaces (4). The inventive device comprises a machine frame (8) which is supported by traveling mechanisms (6), at least one storage container (10, 12) for the dowels (2), and a smoothing plank (20) which rests on the road surface (4) and which comprises slots (24), said slots running in a direction of travel and being provided for accommodating the dowels (2). The smoothing plank also has a retaining device (28) for the dowels which are located in the slots (24). The inventive device is also equipped with a dowel placing device (32). The invention provides that a peg conveying device (40) individually accepts dowels (2) in a section (44) of a bottom or lateral area (48, 52) of the storage container (10, 12) and delivers the dowels (2) to the smoothing plank (20).
