[origin: DE19904304A1] The invention relates to an optical waveguide (10) which has a core (11) and a core sheathing (12) which each consist of a fully fluorinated fluorocarbon material. An especially suitable fully fluorinated fluorocarbon material is a fully fluorinated Teflon3x material such as Teflon3x AF 1600 or Teflon3x AF 2400 or a mixture thereof. The optical waveguide (10) is optically transparent in the wavelength range around 1300 nm and/or around 1550 nm. The core (11) of the optical waveguide (10) preferably has an index of refraction which is greater than the index of refraction of the core sheathing (12). The inventive optical waveguide is especially suitable for use as an integrated optical waveguide for the transfer of information in optical telecommunications.
