[origin: WO0130073A1] A receiver and its method of usage is provided for controllably displaying informational messages, comprising a display device data for receiving first data corresponding to main programming content and second data corresponding to messaging information, and a controller for receiving input regarding changes in the main programming and, upon receipt of such input, coordinating a gradual or piecemeal visual transition to and from the messaging information displayed in the time interval between separate main program pictures. This invention provides smooth visual transitions between main programs and informational messages, such as commercial advertising, using zooms, wipes, dissolves or puzzle constructions/deconstructions and so forth of an introduced informational message by triggering portal applications during, for instance, channel tuning.
