[origin: EP0872699A2] The weapon system has a weapon (1), a targeting system (2), and an ammunition unit (4) which is fired by the weapon. The weapon system includes at least one data entry arrangement (8,13), and a data memory (19) for the storage of data specific to the ammunition. A first micro-controller (6) is arranged at, or in the respective ammunition unit. The first micro-controller is connected with the data entry arrangement of the directing system and the data memory when the ammunition unit is located in a load space (3) of the weapon. This is done in such way that the first micro-controller determines targeting signals necessary for the control of the system from provided ammunition, weapon, and target-specific data, whereupon the determined signals are send to the targeting system.
