Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1151704A2] A delivery box (10) for groceries, other goods, mail, etc., to enable their delivery even to an unoccupied building, is built into an external wall (12) of the building and has an outer door (20) which is openable to enable deliveries to be placed inside the box but which locks automatically when it is then closed. It has a rear door (28) openable directly into, and lockable from, the interior of the building. The box has separate chilled and frozen compartments (30,32), and is accordingly supplied with mains electricity. The outer door is substantially flush with the exterior surface of the wall, and has either a digital computerised locking system operable by pre-arranged single use code numbers or a high-security Yale-type lock. Further refinements can include a letter deposit flap in the outer door opening into a receptacle mounted on the back of the outer door, and/or a bank-type deposit drawer in the outer door; connection to an existing alarm system; and an external child-resistant grille with a high level opening catch. A simpler box can be bolted to an external wall of a building.
