Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2346903A] An apparatus for use with a rotating glue roll 24 for applying glue to a sheet of material, preferably to the flute tips of a single-faced sheet of corrugated paper board, comprises an elongate frame 32 and an elongate rotary device 44, positioned across the direction of movement (A) of the sheet over the glue roll 24. Contact means 31, in the form of shoes 34, are pivotally mounted on the frame 32 which urge the sheet into contact with the glue roll 24. An elongate rotary device 44 comprising a shaft 46 and wheels 45 is mounted on the frame 32 substantially parallel to the contact means 31 and spaced relatively upstream along the direction of movement (A) of the sheet. The shaft 46 and wheels 45 bear against the sheet for tensioning the sheet before it reaches the glue roll 24. The position of the rotary device 44 may be adjusted relative to the frame 32 so as to vary the amount of sheet in contact with the glue roll 24 then passing over the glue roll 24; this adjustment may be performed by a positioning device 51 utilising a pneumatic piston and cylinder drive means (fig 7). Also disclosed is a method of applying glue to the flute tips of a single faced sheet of corrugated paper board using the above described apparatus.
