[origin: EP1156380A2] Method has the following steps: determination of the charging efficiency between a first charging station (28) and a photo-conducting element (18), generation of a reference voltage on the photo-conducting element corresponding to the charging efficiency, non-printing operation of a first sub-system to generate a first resulting voltage on the photo-conducting element and movement of the element to a fixed sensor (50) to measure the resultant voltage. An Independent claim is made for a an electro-graphic marking apparatus with a voltage meter (50) and a logical control unit (24).
