Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19902681A1] When object is partially covered (2), image values inside cover area are replaced by gray values of object (1) before correlation. Target object (1) is hidden behind cover (2) with parts (1a) visible. While parts are still visible, image of object is taken by camera. A reference image is used to create an object mask (10), which is overlaid with image taken by camera, to create interference mask (20), which is overlaid over cover (2). Interference mask contains parts of cover (2) which cover remaining parts of object in image. Image data processor replaces pixels inside interference mask with gray values from reference image to provide replacement (21) with pixels corresponding to covered parts of object. Replacement is used in area of interference mask so image now contains complete object. Object reference (11) is obtained from stored reference image using object mask. Object reference is correlated with image (22) which contains replacement (21). Peak detection determines correlation maximum, location of correlation maximum provides exact position of object in image. Independent claim is included for system to relocate objects in images.
