[origin: EP1034818A1] The invention relates to a golf navigation device for determining and displaying the position of a golf player on a golf course. Said device is portable and comprises a navigation unit, a storage unit (5), an input unit (7) and a display unit (6) which are all connected to a computing unit (3). The navigation unit comprises a device for detecting a relative position which presents a motion sensor and is configured to estimate a distance covered by a golf player on foot. The invention also relates to a method of navigation which uses a relative-position-detection device and comprises the following steps: measurement (111) of acceleration values by means of a motion sensor carried by a user, notably a golf player; storage (103, 104) of the acceleration values over a period of time; and calculation (157) of the walking speed and/or walking distance of the user by means of an estimation model. The invention also relates to a method of navigation during a game a golf which includes the read-out and display of a model game.
