[origin: WO0052114A1] It has been discovered that metal-containing components can be transferred from a hydrocarbon phase to a water phase in an emulsion breaking process by using a composition which is a blend of polymers. The composition includes at least one diepoxide polymer, at least one polyol; and preferably at least one aromatic sulfonic acid. An aromatic solvent may be optionally included in the composition. The invention permits transfer of metal-containing components into the aqueous phase with little or no hydrocarbon phase undercarry into the aqueous phase. The composition is particularly useful in treating crude oil emulsions, and in removing iron-containing components therefrom.
