Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2348802A] A chair 1 for alleviating repetitive strain injuries having a padded seat 2 and a backrest 6, comprises dynamic means such as a pneumatically operable pillow 20, the shape of which is changed over time by inflation and deflation. The pillow may be located in the seat 2 or the backrest 6, or in both. Each pillow may be divided into independently inflatable segments (21 and 22, Fig. 5) to provide up, down, backwards, forwards or side-to-side movement in order to relieve the strain on the joints and muscles of a user. Air is supplied to pillow 20 by a compressor (24, Fig. 2) preferably located beneath the seat. The pillow may be provided with a slit valve 23 to allow air out on deflation.
