[origin: EP1170467A1] Sealing system for thermal engines or processing machines comprises a closed slip ring (15), a sealing ring (5) provided with an open gap (12), and a device (6) pressing the sealing ring with its surface (10) against the surface (14) of the slip ring. The slip ring is pressed with its slip surface (4) against the contact surface (3) of the body (2) to be sealed. The slip ring is guided along a vertical axis (1) passing through the center of gravity of the slip surface into a recess (18) in a fixed housing (13). The radial wall thickness of the sealing ring is not dependent on the outer diameter of the slip ring and is guided in the housing coaxially to the slip ring. The device presses the sealing ring against the slip ring with a constant or adjustable force independent of the gas pressure. Preferred Features: The slip ring has a surface which matches the contour of the contact surface of the body to be sealed. The contact surface is flat, spherical, or cylindrical.
