Abstract (en)
[origin: WO0067452A1] A telephony adapter device is connected to a public telephone network, a conventional telephone, and a computer, which allows the conventional telephone to be used for both traditional telephony and computer network telephony. The adapter includes a first connector for connecting adapter to the telephone, a second connector for connecting adapter to the public telephone network, and a third connector for connecting adapter to the computer. The adapter also includes signal processing circuitry electrically connected to the third connector, a switch electrically connected by separate switch contacts to the first and second connectors, and the signal processing circuitry, and a microcontroller connected between the signal processing circuitry and the third connector. The switch electrically connects the first connector to the second connector in a first position, and electrically connects the first connector to the signal processing circuitry in a second position. Operation of the adapter, including the positioning of the switch, is controlled by the microcontroller.
