[origin: EP1172522A1] The fluid shield for forward tunnel working comprises a shield cover (1), at front end of which is cutting wheel and chamber formed with pressure wall partly filled with support fluid. The chamber is divided by a wall into a front disintegration chamber with the cutting wheel and a rear work chamber, which via a recess aperture formed by the wall in the shield sole area (14) is connected to the disintegration chamber. In the work chamber, the support fluid can be set at a predetermined pressure with the aid of a compressed air cushion and a corresponding control device. The floor material cut away by the cutting wheel, together with support fluid, is fed away via a stone breaker (11) and through a rake (25) by means of a conveyor conduit (12) issuing into the work chamber.
