[origin: GB2349447A] A control pedal assembly 40 including a frictional hysteresis providing arrangement 50 comprises a first friction surface 52 carried on a pivotally mounted friction surface member 56 which is biased into contact about an axis A with a second friction surface 54 by resilient member 58. The first friction surface 52 is mechanically linked to the control pedal arm 60, and the second friction surface is mechanically linked to amounting bracket 70. A position sensor eg. a rotary potentiometer (80, Fig.2) may be in communication with the pedal arm 60. A break line 62 may be provided in the arm 60 to facilitate fracture in the event of collision to prevent injury to the driver. The friction surface components may be composed of a rubber-and-talc-modified polypropylene copolymer.
