Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1176092A1] The procedure for the testing of the tobacco side ends (11) of cigarettes entails irradiating areas with structured light. A detector (20) receives the reflected light and produces an image corresponding to one of these areas. After evaluation of this image and recognition of non-regular cigarette a rejection signal is generated. The irradiated areas are each constructed surface area-dependent and each image is evaluated on the basis of different criteria such as minimum or maximum diameter of an image, the elongation of an image, or compactness. An Independent claim is included for a system for the testing of cigarette ends.
