Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1177730A1] The assembly to condition chopped tobacco, using steam to deliver heat and moisture, has a chamber (3) where the tobacco material drops freely downwards. The chamber has a continuous operation, with ring jets (2) to spray steam downwards at the tobacco falling past them. The chamber is at a constant pressure over atmospheric levels, and has especially an absolute pressure of ≥ 1 bar at 2-10 bar. The jets deliver saturated steam at a temperature of 100-200 degrees C.
