Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1180552A1] A method for the surface treatment of mechanical components involves consecutively nitriding the component and then oxidising it. The nitriding is carried out by immersing the component in a sulphur free nitriding bath of molten salts at a temperature of between 500 and 700oC and the oxidation is carried out in an oxidising aqueous solution at a temperature of less than about 200oC. An Independent claim is included for components treated by this method and having a rugosity of less than 0.5 mu m and with a surface free from tables.
