The inventive method is characterised in that a recess (16) is made in the strip (10) along the bending line before it is bent to form the edge. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out this method, comprising a bending station followed by a connecting station (46). The device is characterised in that a recess (16) can be made in the strip (10) at the bending station (38), along the bending line, using a machining tool (12, 14) that is located in front of the bending tool (42a, 42b) for forming the edge.
