Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2350677A] A method for detecting the presence of an enzyme comprises contacting the sample to be analysed with a substrate part of which is covered with a layer of a biodegradable polymer. The polymer is degraded by the enzyme to produce a measureable signal. The signal is typically detected by measuring changes in the polymer layer using surface plasmon resonance, ellipsometry, impedance spectroscopy or capacitance measurements. Substrate can be an electrode, transducer or a capacitor. Enzyme is e.g. a protease, dextranase or a pepsin. Utility is in immunoassay.
