[origin: EP1186701A2] The press section (10) has an extended press gap (16) along the direction (L) of web travel between a shoe press roller (12) and a counter surface (14). The shoe press roller has a fixed carrier (18) with a flexible press mantle (20) rotating around it, supported by a press shoe (22) against the counter surface and extend it through an outlet (24) at the press gap in the direction of mantle rotation (LM). The press section of a production machine for paper or cardboard or tissue has a shoe press roller, and the pressure on the mantle from the shoe forces it radially outside the mantle circle (26) at the press gap, and it returns to the mantle circle at the free end (28) of the outlet from the press. The length (1A) of the web outlet, in the direction of mantle rotation, is more than one half the length (1S) of the press gap and especially more than 3/4 and preferably equal to or more than the press gap length. At the press gap, the roller mantle is pressed radially outside the mantle circle by a displacement (a) which, at the center, is 1-3% of the mantle circle diameter and especially 1.5-2.5% and particularly 2%.
