[origin: EP1186847A2] Process for removing coating and/or erosion damage from the inner surface of a barrel (1) of a weapon comprises filling the damaged barrel regions (3) using a coating material (10) after cleaning the inner surface of the barrel; and mechanically processing the inner surface of the barrel by turning, grinding or honing. Preferred Features: The coating material is SiO2, ZrSiO4, Mg2SiO4 or SiO250/ZrSiO440/Al2O310. Several layers of the coating material are applied. The coating material is introduced in powder, strip or wire form.
