[origin: WO0071287A1] The tool (180) comprises a shank (182), a tool formation (186) on an outer end of the shank (182), and a spline formation (184) at an inner end of the shank (182). In some embodiments the shank (182) also has a polygonal formation (188) and/or an annular groove (190) in the shank (182) which can be in the area of the polygonal formation (188). The chuck assembly (10) comprises: a chuck body (12) having a central bore (16), three axially and radially movable jaws (14), at least one inwardly extending passageway (24) containing at least one detent (28) between two of the jaws (14), and a nose collar (34) for actuating the detent (28). Drive structure (24), which may be in the form of an insert (12), is provided in the central bore (16) for engaging mating drive structure (26, 184) on the shank of a tool (180) or tool holder (16), whereby axial movement of the tool (180) or tool holder (16) is inhibited or prevented by engagement of the jaws (14) or the detent (28) with the shank.
