[origin: WO0140636A2] The invention relates to a method for identifying a faulty sensor, for example, the coolant temperature sensor of an internal combustion engine, which determines a measured quantity and outputs an output signal that is dependent on said measured quantity. Said output signal is checked for plausibility in an evaluation device, e.g. in the control unit. A fault is identified if, within a predeterminable time after the onset of a disturbance quantity which influences the measured quantity, no change in the output signal of the sensor occurs.
