Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19926308A1] The invention relates to a pump assembly (1) for fuel, comprising a principal feed pump (2) and a pre-feed pump (3), connected upstream thereof which conveys a stream of fuel from a tank (5), using a fuel line (4). The entire conveyed fuel stream is fed through a drive/crank chamber (2a) of the principal feed pump (2). A return flow line (9) for conveying the lubrication stream to the tank (5) is provided in the direction of flow (7) of the entire fuel stream after the drive/crank chamber (2a). A supply flow line (13) for conveying the supply stream to a metering unit (14) and then on to the principal feed pump (2) is also provided after the drive/crank chamber (2a). In order to configure the pump assembly (1) to function in a simple, reliable manner, with a robust construction and high durability, the invention is characterised in that the pre-feed pump (3) is driven mechanically and that a zero flow line (18) branches off between the metering unit (14) and the principal feed pump (2). A throttle valve (19) is located in said zero flow line (18). The zero flow line (18) opens on the induction side of the pre-feed pump (3) into the fuel line (4).
