Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19927065A1] The invention relates to a self-recovering current-limiting device containing liquid metal. The inventive device comprises solid metal electrodes (13) provided for connecting to an external electric circuit to be protected and comprises a plurality of compressor spaces (19) which are partially filled with liquid metal (3), are arranged one behind the other between the electrodes (13), and which are formed by pressure-resistant insulating bodies and by insulating parting walls (17) with connecting channels (21). The aim of the invention is to economically produce and to easily adjust the desired nominal current range. To this end, the invention provides an enclosing insulating shaped housing which consists of a trough-like bottom part (7) and of a cover (9) that tightly closes the same via non-positive and/or positive connecting means. The parting walls (17) and the bottom part (7) are interconnected as one piece. The connecting channels (21) are configured as longitudinal holes which are open at the top. The electrodes (13) are mounted in the bottom part (7).
