[origin: DE10045250A1] Process for determining the position of the final solidification in a casting strand (2) during the continuous casting of steel comprises measuring the strand pulling force and/or holding force of supporting segments (3, 4), and determining the region of the crater tip. An Independent claim is also included for a device for determining the position of the final solidification in a casting strand during the continuous casting of steel. Preferred Features: The strand pulling force is determined from the power from the pulling drive via power measuring devices (7, 8). The position of the crater tip is accurately determined by a roller pair (5, 6).

Ein Verfahren und eine Einrichtung dienen zum Bestimmen der Lage der Enderstarrung (12) im Gießstrang (2) beim Stranggießen von Metallen, insbesondere von Stahl, bei dem der in der Stranggießkokille (1) erzeugte Gießstrang (2) in Stützsegmenten (3,4) geführt, gekühlt und durch die Stützsegmente (3,4) mit angetriebenen Rollenpaaren (5,6) ausgezogen wird. Um die Lage der Enderstarrung (12) genauer zu bestimmen, wird vorgeschlagen, dass zumindest in einem Stützsegment (3;4) die Strangauszugskraft (10) und / oder die Zuhaltekraft der Stützsegmente (3,4) gemessen und dass aus den Messwerten der Bereich der Sumpfspitze bestimmt wird. <IMAGE>
