[origin: WO0104421A1] The inventive floor covering element comprises a top side, a bottom side, with which it can be laid onto a floor area, and comprises two faces arranged on opposite sides and two lateral sides which extend in a manner that is essentially perpendicular to said faces, and which are arranged on opposite sides. A trough-like recess is configured on the top side and extends over the entire length of the floor covering element. In order to enable water to be channeled away in a controlled manner, the trough-like recess is configured between two bank-like elevations which extend over the entire length of the floor covering element, which are upwardly convex in the cross-sections thereof, and which run parallel to one another. The recess is preferably concave in the cross-section thereof, and the surface of the elevations transitions into the surface of the recess in a smooth and continuous manner.
