[origin: WO0077649A1] In several components variants (1.1, 1.2, 1.3) of an electronic subassembly having a different function block (14.1, 14.2, 14.3) depending on the components variant (1.1, 1.2, 1.3), the current components variant (1.1, 1.2, 1.3) is identified by measuring the resistance value of a resistor (6.1, 6.2, 6.3) mounted in said components variant (1.1, 1.2, 1.3). The necessary measuring and test devices are integrated into an external test apparatus that can be attached to a components variant (1.1, 1.2, 1.3) by means of a plug connector (4). The test apparatus can thus test functioning of a function block and determine whether or not it corresponds to the components variant that was determined based on the measurement of the resistance value of said resistor (6.1, 6.2, 6.3).
