[origin: EP1197155A2] Method for producing at least one strand (43, 44) of tobacco comprises feeding tobacco fibers to at least one air-permeable strand conveyor (7, 8), holding them in place using suction air, almost completely removing the dust contained in the suction air, dividing the dust into a coarse and a fine fraction, recycling the coarse fraction to the tobacco strand, and feeding the fine fraction to a central dust extractor. Preferred Features: The dust removed is recycled to the strand conveyor and divided into the fractions using a sieving action. The dust removed is pneumatically transported to the strand conveyor.
