[origin: EP1197600A2] Cutting machine comprises a frame with two roller supports (3), a cutting roller (5) equipped with cutters and positioned on the roller supports so that it rotates, and a drive unit (16) on the outer side of one or both of the roller supports in an arrangement offset upward eccentrically to the roller axis (5a). The drive unit is connected to the cutting roller via a gear (10). The complete gear is located in the cutting roller in an inner chamber (48) connected to its side (5c). The shaft (46) of the drive unit is connected to the gear in the inner chamber eccentrically to the roller axis. Preferred Features: The gear comprises a central driven shaft (14a) coupled with the cutting roller in one of the regions a distance away from the side.
