[origin: EP1199412A2] The hydrant has a valve housing and a narrowed diameter leading to the valve housing. A displaceably located check piston (9) is contained in the valve housing (4). The hydrant has a double seal with a cover pipe (3) and a valve housing (4) with a belly-shaped widened formation, to which is fitted a closure mechanism (7) with a valve piston (6). The check piston in the edge area of the diameter narrowed formation can be so far reduced radially in diameter that it can be guided out of the valve housing past the diameter narrowed formation.
