[origin: DE19939502A1] The invention relates to an igniting pellet (14) of an airbag device located in a steering wheel (2) which is ignited by a light impulse introduced via a fiber optic cable (28). A coupling unit is located between the fiber optic cable (28) and the airbag (6), which decouples the fiber optic cable (28) from the rotation of the steering wheel (2) but guarantees transmission of the light impulse from the fiber optic cable (28) to the igniting pellet (14) and subsequent inflation of the airbag using a gas generator (8).
