[origin: DE19928231A1] The method involves defining a characteristic vector for each point with components based on scaling factors, forming texture classes corresp. to image structural elements from characteristic vectors of reference points, determining the distances of all non-reference points from each texture class, associating them to the nearest texture classes and forming the sub-regions for segmenting from the associated points and reference points of the texture classes. An Independent claim is also included for an image segmentation arrangement and for the use of a method or arrangement for processing images of e.g. medical or biological objects.
