Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0109394A1] The invention concerns a method for reducing metal oxides in a ring-shaped rotary hearth furnace, wherein a carbonaceous reducing agent and metal oxides are deposited on a strip over part of said rotary hearth and then transported in a substantially helical motion towards a discharge device. Said method is characterised in that part of the reducing agent is preheated and mixed with the preheated metal oxides before and/or during the deposit in the form a mixture on the rotary hearth, and a second part of the carbonaceous reducing agent and carbon monoxide are used for reducing the metal oxides.
