A continuous casting mold comprise a casting tube (1) surrounded by a mold housing with a gap (3) into which a cooling medium stream (4) can be introduced and removed. The gap varies over the height of the mold so that it is narrow in the upper part of the mold and corresponds to a high cooling medium speed and it is relatively wide in the lower region of the mold corresponding to a relatively low cooling medium speed. Preferred Features: The contour of the outer cooling medium gap wall (5a) corresponds to the negative mold of the solidification line in the casting strand running from above to below.

Eine Stranggießkokille, insbesondere zum Gießen von Knüppel- oder Vorblocksträngen, deren Gießrohr (1) von einem Kokillengehäuse (2) mit Spaltabstand (3) umgeben ist, in den ein Kühlmedium (4) zuführbar und wieder abführbar ist, kann die Geschwindigkeit des Kühlmediums (4) im Kühlkanal des Kokillengehäuses (2) über die Geometrie des Kühlmedium-Leitmantels (2a) dahingehend steuern, dass der Kühlmedium-Spalt (5) derart über die Kokillenhöhe (6) unterschiedlich breit ist, dass im oberen Kokillenbereich (6a) der Kühlmedium-Spalt (5) eng ist, entsprechend einer hohen Kühlmedium-Geschwindigkeit, und im unteren Kokillenbereich (6b) relativ breit ist, entsprechend einer relativ niedrigeren Kühlmedium-Geschwindigkeit. <IMAGE>
