[origin: EP1207234A2] A ballast spreader for a rail track has a housing supported on a single rail (22) by shaped rollers on the underside. Two adjustable spreader boards (2) are fitted to the frame to spread the ballast as the spreader is dragged along the rail by an excavator or tractor. The height and angle of the spreader boards is adjustable to suit different track dimensions. The spreader is attached to the tractor/excavator by an adjustable coupling.
