[origin: EP1207358A2] The exchanger includes a liquid heat exchanger (5) mounted from the beginning of the return pipe at the top and having in the upper region openings (6) which point away from the exhaust gas heat exchanger. In the lower region it ends in a preferably thermally operated mixer with by pass and mixer valve and is adjoined there by the header pipe mounted at the bottom. The mixer and by pass can be designed as a 3-way mixer so that the liquid heat exchanger is fully switched off during operation at higher header temperature
