[origin: WO0077701A1] A method and apparatus (10) for providing anonymous and secure transactions over the Internet is provided herein. More specifically, the present invention includes a privacy system (12) that facilitates anonymous transactions globally between a customer (20) and a merchant (22). The privacy system (12) allows the customer (20) to purchase one or more items (60) from the merchant (22) over the Internet without the merchant (22) knowing the identity, credit card information and/or location of the customer (20). In order to facilitate an anonymous transaction, the privacy system (12) pays the merchant (22) for the item(s) (60). Furthermore, the privacy system (12) provides the shipping instructions for the item(s) (60) directly to a shipper (25) and not to the merchant (22). Additionally, for example, the privacy system (12) can pay the required sales tax, issue refunds for item(s) (60) purchased, control the flow of correspondence from the merchant (22) to the customer (20), generate a customer uniform bill of sale (1200), and generate a merchant bill of sale (1300).
