[origin: GB2353468A] A desk comprises a desk top 1 moveable relative to a supporting a base structure 2 for conversion of the desk to a bed, with the top 2 extending substantially horizontally relative to the base 2 and defining with the base 2 a substantially horizontal elongate support surface of a bed (1,5,14, fig.4). The desk may feature a first recess 6, covered by the top 2, and a second recess 7, located behind an upright wall 9 of the desk, which recesses may interconnect and accommodate and retain a mattress 11 or futon 11. The movement of the top 2 may reveal the first recess 6 and allow subsequent removal of the mattress or futon for deployment on the elongate support surface (1,5,15, fig.4). The top 2 may be pivotally mounted, directly or via a frame member 15, to the base. In an alternate embodiment the desk top may feature hinged top and bottom panels (21, 22, fig,5) which may be opened to provide the elongate support surface (fig.7) and may reveal a plastic foam sheeting 26, 27 to function as a mattress. This embodiment may further feature foldable legs (31, fig.5) and headrest/extensions (33, fig.7) and the desk top may be supported on pedestals 23, which may allow for height adjustment.
