[origin: DE19943597A1] The invention relates to the use of basic amino acids in aqueous hair treatment products, for protecting hair from heat damage. L-histidine is particularly well suited to this purpose, in preparations for shaping and fixing the hair using hot air. The concentration of said basic amino acids in the preparation is preferably 0.01-1 wt. % and they preferably have a pH value of 4.5-7. Preparations for fixing and shaping hair, containing 0.1-5.0 wt. % of a film-forming polymerisate and 0.05-2 wt. % of a basic amino acid in an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solution are particularly preferable.
