Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1210999A1] Mantle surface of the can body is embossed using an inner tool with a cylindrical-shaped steel embossing sleeve having a slit extending from the top to the bottom in an axial direction. Depressions corresponding to the raised embossing profiles in the outer tool are present in the sleeve surface. The sleeve is mounted on an axially movable expander mandrel with cone-shaped expansion sections. The device is used to emboss two or three-part can bodies and comprises a rotatable inner tool with an expander device for fixing the can body into position, a rotatable outer tool, and a drive mechanism for the two tools.
