[origin: EP1211212A2] The method for folding sheets (12) of material uses a blade folder. The speed of the sheets is determined before they reach the folder and the release point and required velocity profile for the blade (34) are calculated. The folder is then operated using these. The release point is calculated by calculating the time at which the sheet will arrive at the folder, by detecting the presence of the sheet at a distance D from it. Independent claims are included for: (a) a system for carrying out the method; (b) a folder unit containing the system; and (c) a folding machine containing the unit.
