[origin: WO0115827A1] The invention relates to a device for creating a recess in a workpiece which has a tool (30) which can be moved forward by a forward feed device (31) in a tool (30) which can be moved forward and which has at least one machining element (35; 35a-35d) for the production of a recess (2a-2d) in said workpiece (3a-3e). According to the invention, the tool (30) has at least one machining element (35; 35a-35d) with a machining area (40) which is wedge-shaped and which projects from a front end (38) to an opposite end (39) of the machining area (40) and widens to a breadth (b) thereby substantially corresponding to the axial elongation (I) of the recess to be produced (2a-2d), rising from the base (36) of the tool (30) to a height (h) and having at least the depth (t) of the recess (2a-2d) to be produced. Said device (1) has an apparatus (10, 11; 20, 21) which can move the tool (30) in a processing direction (B) at various machining forces.
