Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0120111A1] The aim of the invention is to improve locking devices, especially for use in motor vehicles, in which a locking cylinder is mounted on at least one door and this locking cylinder is operated by a key (10) which has code tracks (13) on the flat sides (11) thereof. To this end, the profile (14) which typifies the key (10) and which, according to the state of the art, is arranged in the outer areas of the flat sides (11) of the key (10) is realized in the form of a groove (14) that is located on the narrow sides (12) of the key (10) and recessed therein. In addition, a projection is provided on the upper and/or lower narrow side of the key channel of the locking cylinder and, when the key (10) is inserted, the projection engages inside the groove (14') located on the key. The inventive measures permit the height of the key (10) to be reduced since the edges of the flat sides (11) of the key (10) can be brought close to the code path (13). In addition, the key (10) wobbles less by virtue of the fact that the projection is guided in the groove (14') when the key is inserted into the locking cylinder.
