Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1212953A2] A waterproof, water vapour permeable shoe comprises an upper (1), a functional layer (2) in the shape of a sock made from a dispersion or solution of a waterproof, water vapour permeable polymer, a lining (3), and a sole (5). The functional layer has a thickness between 10 and 150 microns, pref.40 to 100 microns, and is attached to the top opening only of the upper, the top portion of which is folded over the ends of the lining and the functional layer and secured by a seam (4). The sole may be secured to the bottom of the shoe by bonding or sewing, and the seam resealed by a further application of waterproof water vapour permeable polymer. Alternatively the sole may be injection moulded and further sealing is unnecessary. Items (1,3,5) may be made from any conventional materials. The functional layer may be adapted to fit a variety of shoe sizes by making a cut in the bottom of the layer and bonding the edges together.
