Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1213387A2] In a paper or cardboard manufacturing process a machine feeds a web (12) towards (L) a slot in a machine, dragging with it the boundary layer (12) of air. A charge electrode (14) is directed at the moving web, disrupting the laminar flow of the boundary layer. A counter-electrode (16) faces the first (14) on the other side of the web. The counter-electrode (16) may be a rotating drum. Also claimed is an embodiment one or more such electrostatic units is used in conjunction with a skimmer blade (32) which lifts passing turbulent air flow from the web towards a vacuum (36) inlet. A steam jet (52) emitter array (50) is directed at the web surface after the slot and moistens the web surface.
