Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19943478A1] The invention relates to an illumination element (1), comprising at least one light source (11) and at least one ceiling element (12) which is fixed to a ceiling and/or wall and has a closed frame element (2). The free peripheral surface of said frame element, which faces away from the ceiling or wall, is covered by a partially transparent first film (3) that is located beneath the light source (11) and also has a second partially transparent film (4), lying between the first film (3) and the light source (11). The surfaces of the two films (3, 4) run at least approximately parallel to and at a distance from one another. When the inventive illumination body (1) is switched on, insects or dirt particles which have collected on the second film (4) are no longer visible to an observer who is looking at the first film (3), as a result of the scattering of light as it passes through the second film (4). An additional advantage of the invention is that it produces a diffuse and extremely even illumination which closely resembles natural light.
